Accessibility Statement
Everyone deserves to take part. Here's how we're working to make that true, and how to tell us when we've fallen short.
Our commitment
Here4U Community is committed to ensuring that our website, our events, and our community spaces are accessible to everyone, including disabled people, neurodivergent people, and people with long-term health conditions. Accessibility isn't an afterthought, it's a core part of what being a kind community means.
What we've done on the website
We've built here4ucommunity.com to aim for conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. That means we've tried to:
- Use clear, readable fonts at a comfortable size, with generous line-height
- Maintain high colour contrast between text and backgrounds
- Provide descriptive alternative text for meaningful images
- Make the whole site navigable by keyboard, including a "Skip to main content" link
- Use semantic HTML headings so screen readers can navigate our pages
- Label every form field clearly, with visible focus indicators
- Support "prefers-reduced-motion" for people who are sensitive to animation
- Make the site fully responsive so it works on phones, tablets and desktops
- Avoid auto-playing audio or video
What might still be tricky
We're a small team and we're learning as we go. Areas we know aren't perfect yet include:
- Some older event photos may not have detailed alt-text
- Embedded music players (Spotify) rely on third-party accessibility that we don't directly control
- Some PDFs or downloads we link to might not be fully screen-reader friendly
We're actively working on these. If you find something that doesn't work for you, please let us know, your feedback makes the site better.
Accessibility at our events
We want our events to be welcoming for everyone. Some ways we try to do that:
- We choose venues with step-free access where we can, and we note accessibility details in every event listing
- Companions, carers and support workers are always welcome, and don't count towards your ticket
- We're happy to share detailed information in advance: the venue, the route, who you'll meet, what to expect, so you can arrive feeling prepared
- We offer quiet alternatives, and nobody is ever pressured to participate in anything they don't want to
- If an event isn't working for you, we'd rather know so we can improve, never feel you're "being difficult"
If you need something specific for an event, step-free access, a quieter check-in, BSL information, large-print materials, a companion ticket, please email us in advance at here4ucommunity@gmail.com and we'll do our best.
Tell us if something isn't working
If you come across a barrier on our website or at one of our events, we really want to hear from you. We treat accessibility feedback as a gift, not a complaint.

We aim to respond within 5 working days.
Enforcement
In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 requires us to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. If you're unhappy with how we've responded to an accessibility concern, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on the basis of self-assessment. As we grow, we plan to bring in third-party accessibility audits to check and improve our work.
